Systeme.io Review 2026: The Honest, Warts-and-All Assessment Every Course Creator Should Read

by Paul | Mar 25, 2026

If you've spent any time researching course platforms, you've almost certainly come across Systeme.io. And if you've asked anyone who's used it, you'll have heard some version of the same reaction: 'Wait — it really does all of that for free?'

Yes. It really does. But I'm not going to write a breathless review that makes Systeme.io sound like the answer to every problem every creator has ever had. That's not useful, and frankly, you've probably read enough of those already.

What I'm going to give you instead is an honest, experience-based assessment — the things Systeme.io does genuinely well, the areas where it has real limitations, the people it's perfect for, and the people who might be better served by something else. Including, if you're currently paying a substantial monthly fee to a platform like Kajabi and wondering whether Systeme.io could replace it, some practical guidance on what that migration actually involves.

I've been using and paying for course and coaching platforms for years. I've tested Systeme.io properly — not just clicking around a demo, but building actual funnels, courses, and email sequences in it. This review is written from that experience.

What Is Systeme.io, and Why Is Everyone Talking About It?

Systeme.io is a French-built all-in-one platform founded by Aurélien Amacker in 2018. It was built on a simple premise: that online entrepreneurs were paying far too much for a fragmented set of tools that should all work together.

The typical course creator in 2018 was using Teachable or Thinkific for their courses, plus ConvertKit or Mailchimp for email, plus ClickFunnels for funnels, plus Stripe with a third-party checkout — four subscriptions that together might cost $200 to $300 a month before they'd sold a single lesson. Systeme.io was designed to replace all four of those tools with one unified platform, at a price that didn't require an established business to justify.

By 2026, it has grown to serve over 300,000 businesses globally, and — notably — it actually lowered prices in 2025 on its Startup plan at a time when almost every other platform was raising theirs. That's not a small detail. It speaks to the company's positioning and its relationship with its customer base.

What Systeme.io Actually Does: The Core Features

Here's what you get inside a single Systeme.io account, regardless of your plan:

Online Course Hosting

You can build structured courses with modules, lessons, video content, PDFs, and drip scheduling. The course builder is clean and straightforward — not the most feature-rich in the market, but genuinely easy to use without any technical knowledge. Unlimited students are included on every plan, including the free tier. There are no per-student fees and no transaction charges beyond your payment processor's standard rate.

Sales Funnels

The funnel builder is arguably Systeme.io's strongest feature. You can build a complete sequence — opt-in page, sales page, order form with upsell and order bump, thank-you page — without needing any external tool. Templates are provided for the most common funnel types. The builder is drag-and-drop and functional for non-technical creators.

Email Marketing and Automation

Every Systeme.io plan includes unlimited email sends. You can build broadcast campaigns, automated sequences that trigger based on specific actions (a new signup, a purchase, a tag being applied), and basic lead scoring. The automation builder is visual and easy to follow. It isn't as sophisticated as dedicated tools like ActiveCampaign, but for most creators it covers the 80% they actually use.

Website Builder

You can build a simple website — including a homepage, about page, and blog — directly in Systeme.io. The builder uses the same drag-and-drop editor as the funnel tool. It's not a full-featured website builder like WordPress, and creators with complex content requirements may find it limiting. But for a simple, functional web presence alongside your courses and funnels, it does the job.

Affiliate Programme Management

Systeme.io includes a full affiliate management system from the free plan. You can set up custom commission rates, generate tracking links for affiliates, and manage payouts — all without a third-party tool. For a creator who wants to build affiliate sales as part of their revenue strategy, this is a meaningful built-in capability.

Checkout and Payments

Stripe, PayPal, and several other processors are natively supported. There are no transaction fees payable to Systeme.io on any plan — you pay only the standard processing fees charged by your payment provider. One-click upsells and order bumps are included from the free plan, allowing you to increase average order value at checkout without additional tools.

Community Features

Systeme.io has added basic community functionality in recent iterations. It's not as developed as dedicated community platforms like Circle or Mighty Networks, and it won't replace a robust Facebook group for most creators at this stage. But it's a workable starting point.

Systeme.io Pricing in 2026: The Full Picture

Systeme.io operates on a four-tier pricing model. Here's what each plan costs and what you get:

FeatureFreeStartup $17/moWebinar $47/moUnlimited $97/mo
Contacts2,0005,00010,000Unlimited
Email sendsUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimited
Sales funnels31050Unlimited
Courses1520Unlimited
Automation rules110100Unlimited
Evergreen webinars10Unlimited
Affiliate programme
Free migrationAnnual plan onlyAnnual plan onlyAnnual plan only
Transaction fees0%0%0%0%

A few things worth highlighting in the pricing structure:

  • The free plan is genuinely free. No credit card required, no expiry date, no sudden removal — unlike several competitors who have taken away their free tiers in 2024 and 2025. You can build a real business on it.
  • The Startup plan was reduced to $17/month in 2025 on annual billing — at a time when platforms like Kajabi, Teachable, and Kartra were all raising prices. This is a meaningful signal about the company's positioning.
  • Free migration is available on all annual paid plans. If you're currently on another platform and want to move to Systeme.io, they will migrate your existing courses, funnels, and content for you at no charge when you sign up for an annual plan. For creators currently paying $100+ per month elsewhere, this removes one of the biggest practical barriers to switching.
  • No transaction fees on any plan. You pay only your payment processor's standard rate. There's no Systeme.io cut on top of that — unlike Teachable's Starter plan (7.5%), Thinkific's lower tiers, or several others.

Where Systeme.io Genuinely Excels

Value for Money Is Exceptional

Let's be direct about this: if you replaced Systeme.io's Startup plan ($17/month) with equivalent individual tools, you'd be looking at approximately $200+ per month. ConvertKit for email ($29+), ClickFunnels for funnels ($147+), Teachable for courses ($39+), plus whatever you use for affiliate management. Systeme.io bundles all of that for $17, with no transaction fees. For a new or early-stage creator, that's a genuinely transformative difference in overhead.

Getting Started Is Fast

Most creators can have their first course and funnel live within a day of creating an account. The interface is logical and the most important workflows — create a course, build a funnel, set up a checkout — are designed for non-technical users. There's no steep learning curve comparable to Kartra or Zenler.

Everything Talks to Everything

Because all the tools live in one platform, integrations just work. When someone opts into your email list through a funnel, they're automatically in your contact list. When they purchase a course, they're automatically enrolled and tagged. You don't need Zapier to connect separate tools, which saves both money and the headache of broken zaps at the worst possible moment.

Pricing Stability

While competitors have been raising prices and removing features from lower tiers, Systeme.io has held or reduced its pricing. For a creator building a long-term business, that kind of predictability matters more than most people acknowledge until they receive an unexpected price increase email.

Free Migration Removes a Major Barrier

One of the most common reasons creators stay on a platform they're not happy with is the perceived complexity and cost of moving. Systeme.io's free migration service on annual plans directly addresses this. Their team handles the technical side of moving your courses, funnels, and content — so switching doesn't have to mean a weekend of manual rebuilding.

Where Systeme.io Has Real Limitations — The Warts

This is the section most review articles skip because they want your affiliate click. I'm not going to do that. Systeme.io has genuine limitations that matter for some creators.

The Course Builder Lacks Depth

Compared to Thinkific or Teachable, Systeme.io's course builder is relatively basic. There's no advanced quiz functionality, no native certificate customisation, and the student experience — while clean — isn't as polished as what you'd get on a platform built primarily around course delivery. If you're building a complex course with sophisticated assessments, SCORM content, or multiple interactive elements, you may find Systeme.io limiting.

Page Builder Templates Are Functional, Not Beautiful

Kajabi's page templates are significantly more design-forward than Systeme.io's. If the visual quality of your sales pages and course portal is a priority for your brand positioning, you may find that Systeme.io requires more manual effort to achieve the look you want. The templates work — they're just not the most inspiring starting points.

Community Features Are Underdeveloped

If community is a central part of your offer — not just a nice-to-have, but the main value proposition of your coaching programme — Systeme.io's current community tools won't match dedicated platforms like Circle, Mighty Networks, or Kajabi's community product. You'd likely need a separate tool or run your community on a Facebook group.

Analytics and Reporting Are Basic

Systeme.io gives you the core numbers — opt-in rates, sales, email open rates — but it doesn't offer the depth of reporting you'd get from more advanced platforms or from specialist analytics tools. If detailed attribution data and funnel performance analytics are critical to how you run your business, this is a gap worth knowing about.

Automation Has Limits on Lower Plans

The free plan allows just one automation rule, and the Startup plan gives you ten. For a creator with multiple products, audiences, and complex customer journeys, those limits can feel restrictive quickly. The Webinar plan at $47/month expands this to 100 rules, which covers most real-world use cases — but it's worth factoring into your plan selection.

No Webinar Tool Below the $47 Plan

Live and evergreen webinars are not available on the Free or Startup plans. If webinars are part of your launch or marketing strategy, you'll need the Webinar plan at minimum. That's $47/month — still well below most competitors, but worth planning for.

Is Systeme.io Right for Your Business?

Based on my experience, here's an honest breakdown of who Systeme.io suits well and who might be better served elsewhere.

Systeme.io is an excellent fit if:

  • You're launching your first course or coaching programme and want to keep overheads low while you validate your idea
  • You're currently paying for multiple separate tools (email platform + funnel builder + course platform) and want to simplify and save money
  • You're on a platform like Kajabi and finding that you're using 30% of what you're paying for — and want the same core functionality at a fraction of the cost
  • You value stability and predictability in your platform costs over time
  • You want a fast, relatively low-complexity setup that lets you focus on content and marketing rather than platform configuration

You might be better served elsewhere if:

  • Your course delivery experience is your primary differentiator and you need a polished, sophisticated student portal
  • Community is genuinely at the centre of your offer and you need dedicated, feature-rich community tools
  • You have complex automation requirements — multiple conditional paths, advanced tagging logic, and deep segmentation — that require a specialist email or CRM platform
  • Design quality of your pages and brand assets is a significant priority and you want premium-looking templates out of the box

Already on Another Platform? What Migration to Systeme.io Actually Involves

If you're currently using Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific, Zenler, or another platform and you're paying more than you need to, migration is probably the thing stopping you from making the switch. Here's the honest picture.

What Systeme.io migrates for free (on annual plans): Their team will move your courses, funnels, sales pages, and website content. They handle the technical process of rebuilding your existing assets inside Systeme.io. This is included at no additional cost when you sign up for any annual paid plan.

What you'll need to manage yourself: Your email list (a simple export/import), your domain settings (pointing your domain to Systeme.io rather than your old platform — typically a 15-minute task), and your student accounts. If you have existing students mid-course, you'll need to invite them to the new platform — a process that's manageable but requires communication.

The honest time expectation: With the free migration service doing the heavy lifting, most creators can complete a migration in a few days of elapsed time, with a few hours of their own active work. It's not the weekend-destroying nightmare some imagine — particularly when you're not doing the technical rebuilding yourself.

The financial case for migrating is often compelling. A creator currently paying $149/month for Kajabi's Basic plan would save $132/month on a Systeme.io Startup plan — nearly $1,600 per year, for comparable functionality across the features most creators actually use. The migration pays for itself almost instantly.

The Platform Selection Mistakes That Cost Creators the Most

A few patterns from years of watching this space:

1. Choosing for the business you want, not the business you have.

Kajabi's community features, Kartra's advanced automation, Thinkific's polished course player — all of these are genuinely useful for established creators at scale. For someone launching their first course, they're expensive features that add complexity without adding income.

2. Failing to calculate total cost of ownership.

The headline subscription price is only part of the story. Transaction fees, third-party tool costs, Zapier connections, and annual plan commitments all contribute to your real monthly platform spend. Calculate the full number, not just the plan price.

3. Letting migration fear trap them on the wrong platform.

The creator who has been on Kajabi for two years, paying $149/month, using 25% of the features, and would happily switch to Systeme.io — but hasn't, because of the perceived complexity of moving. The free migration service exists specifically to remove that barrier.

4. Treating platform comparison articles as objective.

Most comparison articles are written by affiliates who earn commission from every platform they recommend. I do have an affiliate relationship with Systeme.io, and I'm transparent about that. But I've also flagged its genuine limitations in this review, which most affiliate-driven articles don't do.

The Verdict: A Genuinely Useful Tool with Real but Manageable Limitations

Systeme.io is not a perfect platform. No platform is. But for the course creator or coach who is starting out, scaling on a budget, or currently overpaying for more platform than they need — it is genuinely one of the best-value tools in the market in 2026.

The free plan is a real free plan, not a crippled taster. The Startup plan at $17/month delivers functionality that competing platforms charge $150+ for. The free migration service removes the main practical barrier to switching. And the company's decision to cut prices in 2025 rather than raise them tells you something useful about how they think about their relationship with customers.

If you've been sitting on the fence about whether Systeme.io could work for your business, the lowest-risk thing you can do is create a free account and actually build something in it. Not browse the dashboard — build your first funnel. Upload a course module. Set up a checkout. The free plan gives you everything you need to test it properly, with no payment details required.

You can create your free Systeme.io account here: https://iosysteme.com. No credit card, no expiry, no catch.

And if you'd like a broader independent comparison of all the main platforms worth considering — covering Systeme.io alongside Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific, Kartra, Zenler, and others — I've put together a free guide specifically for course creators and coaches. It's available below this article.

About the author: This review is based on several years of hands-on experience building and running online courses and coaching programmes across multiple platforms. Systeme.io is one of the platforms covered through an affiliate relationship, but this review includes honest assessments of its limitations alongside its strengths — because that's the only kind of review worth reading.
